Cadmium sulfide (or cadmium-sulphide ) is an inorganic compound. It comes in two forms: the form is a yellow powder and the form is an orange-red one. Water soluble, acid soluble, ammonia soluble. This yellow solid is made from cadmium sulfur. Cadmium sulfide is a yellow solid with two crystal structures. This mineral, leucite and Clinopyroxene, are rare. But it’s more common to be used in impurity replacements in zinc ores of similar structure, such as wurtzite. While zinc ores Sphalerite (the main source for cadmium), and zinc ore wurtzite (the primary economic sources), they have different crystal structures. Cadmium is most commonly found in this compound because it is relatively easy to separate. Because it is bright yellow, this compound was used to make the yellow paint Cadmium Yellow in the 18th Century.
Like zinc sulfide, cadmium sulfide has two crystal forms. Greenockite’s Greenockite Mineral has both a hexagonal, stable wurtzite (present in Greenockite) and a cubic, mixed (present at Hawleyite). Cadmium and sulf atoms share four coordinates across both forms. Also, there is a high-pressure variant with a NaClrock salt structure.
HTMLium-sulfide, a bandgap semiconductor that has an energy gap 2.42 electronvolts (energy gap 2.02 eV). You can see its colorful bandgap close to the wavelength of visible sunlight.
Both polymorphs, as well as the hexagon, are piezoelectric.
CdS Crystal can be used in the gain medium for solid state lasers.
It is possible to combine CdS and other layers into thin films. This can be useful for some types of solar panels. CdS is also used in thin-film transistors.

How CdS Powder created?
Cadmium sulfide is prepared from precipitated soluble Cadmium(II). This reaction is useful for qualitative inorganic as well gravimetric analysis.
Cadmium ore in industry is often leached into cadmium sodium sulfate. This acid can be adjusted to pH=3.5. It’s then precipitated by sodium sulfide.
CdS can be precipitated, washed of precipitates to remove the soluble Cadmium salts, and then calcination (roasting), to transform them to hexagons. Next, powders will be made by grinding. CdSe or CdSe are co-precipitating when cadmium isulfide selende is required. Cadmium selenide, however, will be formed during the step of calcination.

Cadmium yellow can be called cadmium-sulfide. This color is used to paint enamels, glasses, ceramics, and plastics.
A variety of colors can be made with nickel yellow, including translucent plastics. Cadmium yellow can be mixed with zinc sulfide to make polyethylene translucent. Therefore, the mold processing time should not exceed the recommended length. Zinc sulfide may promote polyethylene plastic decomposition. In order to avoid mixing copper-salt pigments with cadmium, yellow must not be combined. This will result in the formation either of green coppersulfate or black coppersulfide. For green you can combine cadmium and blue pigments.
Cadmium-sulfide has a lot of uses, including as a coloring agent, due to its thermal stability, high light and weather fastness and chemical resistance.
